Teddy Bear puppy
Lucy, dam of the Tedyy Bear puppy litter

Origin:
The Teddy Bear is the result of a few different designer breeds. The Teddy Bear can be a mix of the Shih Tzu and the Poodle (Shih Poo), the Bichon Frise and the Toy Poodle (Poochon) or the Bichon Frise and the Shiz Tzu (Zuchon). In some cases, the Teddy Bear can be a mix of all three breeds. Designer breeds like the Teddy Bear have been bred both for their looks and their allergy-friendly coats.

Basics: The Teddy Bear is a desgner breed that has been bred both for their

"Teddy Bear" look and their hypo-allergenic (allergy friendly) coats.

Temperament: The Teddy Bear's temperament depends some on their breeding, typically they are affectionate and playful. This makes them a

great family dog. Most Teddy Bears love to play and also love to cuddle.

Character: The Teddy Bear is a people oriented breed, well mannered, and friendly.

Size: The size of a Teddy Bear varies, but is a smaller breed, typically they will weigh 12-16 pounds and usually do not measure greater than 12 inches.

Grooming: The Teddy Bear is a very low shedding breed. Their coat is soft and fluffy. The coat of a Teddy Bear can be groomed long or clipped in to a short "puppy coat". The Teddy Bear does need to be groomed frequently to prevent their soft coat from becoming matted or tangled. They need to be brushed and bathed regularly.

Activity Level: Most Teddy Bears are not often highly active. To help them stay healthy and strong, a daily walk or some play time either indoor or outdoors in recommended.

Intelligence: Like it's ancestors, the Bichon Frise, the Shih Tzu, and the Toy Poodle are all intelligent breeds, and therefore so is the Teddy Bear. They are very eager to learn and to please their owner.

Training: The Teddy Bear is generally easy to train: they tend to do well at picking up commands and learning new tricks.

However, like most smaller breeds, the Teddy Bear can take some time and effort to housebreak. A lot of praise and treats, patience and a consistent routine helps them get there!

Life Expectancy: The Teddy Bear has a life expectancy of 12-16 years.
